In Kerala Payasams get a dedicated space in plate especially during festivals like Onam. During Onam season Kerallites prepare a wide variety of payasams. Payasam is generally of two types pradaman, the one made using coconut milk and jagree and payasam is made using milk and sugar.

Onam,Kerela’s own festival is incomplete without payasams. There are a variety of payasams keralites used to prepare during this festival. Ada pradaman, parippu pradaman, pal payasam, semiya payasam, mixed fruit payasam, jackfruit payasam, mambhazha pradaman and list is never ending.
