Karkidaka Kanji – Marunnu Kanji

Karkidaka kanji is a special recipe during Rainy season. It has many health benefits.

People usually prepare Karkidaka Kanji and prepare pathila currikal( curries using ten medicinal leavies) during this season. Medicinal leaves used are Mullan cheera (spiny amaranth),. Choriyanam ila (Indian stinging nettle leaves),Mathan ila (pumpkin leaves),Kumbalam ila (ash gourd leaves),Chena ila (elephant yam leaves),Payar ila (cowpea leaves),Chemb ila (small coloccasia leaves),Thazhuthama (spreading hogweed),Thalu (wild coloccasia), Tharakara (oval-shaped cassia).The leafy vegetables named pattilakal have an amazing effect on our body, especially during Karkidaka season.

Here go the recipe of Karikidaka kanji or Marunnu Kanji.

Ingredients

Red Raw Rice(Njavara Ari)-1/2cup
Cumin seeds-1tsp
Fenugreek seeds-1tsp
Chada kuppa-1tsp
Mustard seeds-1tsp
Turmeric powder-1/4tsp
Asaali-1tsp
Water-4-5cups
Grated Coconut -3tbsp

Method

  • Soak red raw rice, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds,assali, for 20 minutes.
    and soak kakkum kaya for 7-8 hours.
  • Wash everything well..
  • Grind fennel seeds, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, Chadu kuppa, coconut, turmeric powder, and kakkum kaya by adding water to a fine paste.
  • Soak and wash the rice and cook by adding water for one whistle in medium heat.
  • When the rice is cooked well add the ground paste and mix well.
  • Boil for 10 minutes and off the flame.
  • Finally, sprinkle some asaali and serve mild hot
  • ¬†Karkkidaka kanji or Karkidaka Marunnu is ready.
